Born and raised in Tel Aviv, the clients had a deep love and appreciation for the Bahaus (Modernism) style of architecture, which defined their city. The style is characterized by rational, functional design with a focus on simplicity and geometric shapes, while rejecting ornamentation and focusing on clean lines and essential elements. Perched on a rocky lava point on a private peninsula in Makena, the site faces north, down the coast, with views of the West Maui Mountains and the island of Lanai. This provided a unique opportunity to create a two-story glass storefront, by stacking 10′ x 10′ sheets of glass and their curved side companions, avoiding the southern solar gain. To open up the first level and minimize columns, a second level bedroom is hung from steel beams in the ceiling. A floating staircase is cantilerered off a side wall leading one to a study and three bedooms. When it sold in 2023, it was the highest recorded sale ever on Maui at $32.76M.
