The wife was a sculptor and the husband an oil executive. They had lived in a house in California that was redwood inside and out. Having spent years going to the North Shore, they wanted a modernism home of concrete that would hold up well on the ocean but also give new life to their beautiful French and Italian amoires, that had becomes lost in the redwood. The feeling of a carriage house entry greets ones arrival. Upon passing through the gate a long entry pond and sculpture leads through the garden and up to the house. Large, sweeping forms were created with the concrete. Operable mechanical louvers allow for the tradewinds to pass through or be regulated. A dumbawater takes groceries from the ground level up to the kitchen and then to the roof for sunset dining. Two spacious offices afford work spaces with views of the surfers.
